unfortunately, it didn't work! this was the way i've tried it: adding the ppa's, imported the key file updated the system with update manager reboot installed xorg-driver-fglrx with synpatic terminal: aticonfig --initial reboot same error message as always
removed the fglrx driver and restored the xorg.conf reboot strange noises coming from the soundboxes installed fglrx via restricted hardware manager reboot same problem as always (will attach the xorg.0.log for this attempt) removed fglrx and restored the xorg.conf still strange noises coming from my boxes the interesting part in the xorg.0.log is: "(--) fglrx(0): Chipset: "ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400 Series" (Chipset = 0x95c4) (--) fglrx(0): (PciSubVendor = 0x1043, PciSubDevice = 0x836a) (--) fglrx(0): board vendor info: third party graphics adapter - NOT original ATI (--) fglrx(0): Linear framebuffer (phys) at 0xe8000000 (--) fglrx(0): MMIO registers at 0xfbef0000 (--) fglrx(0): I/O port at 0x0000d000 (==) fglrx(0): ROM-BIOS at 0x000c0000 (II) fglrx(0): AC Adapter is used (EE) fglrx(0): Invalid video BIOS signature!
