This bug appears only in combination with the nvidia driver 185.18.14-0ubuntu1 from the ubuntu-x-swat PPA. (I tried the latest driver version because I had some refresh problems. (Bug #269904)) Now I found a workaround for this problem for the jaunty "default" nvidia driver (180.44-0ubuntu1) and downgraded to 180.44. The crashes are over. ;-)
