Hi, I was using Rhythmbox earlier today to play some mp3s and paused it
to watch a brief video clip using the Movie Player app. The video
worked fine in Movie Player, but there was no sound and the speaker icon
in that app was grayed out. Stopped/exited the Rhythmbox app entirely
and tried again and the Movie Player sound was back. I admit to not
knowing much about audio architecture under Linux, but this just seems
broken--why can't both apps just play nice and share the resource?

Particular details of my setup: I'm running 64-bit Ubuntu/Hardy 8.04 on
an AMD-64 Athlon, along with Rhythmbox 0.11.5. I have a high-end DSP
audio card (SCOPE professional) that I use under Windows (dual-boot
setup, and the card doesn't have Linux drivers.) I haven't tried
disabling/tweaking any BIOS parameters, but I'd really rather not have
to go there.

Thanks for any help in fixing this,

Ken
