Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

I think that rather than having any number of separate workspaces, you
should be able to have one really wide workspace. You could then just
move a little to the right or a little to the left. Desktop wallpaper,
icons, and gnome panels would remain fixed while you go left or right to
view windows.

For Compiz users, this would be represented as a cylinder instead of a
cube and you would be able to stop the cylinder anywhere, unlike the
cube that restricts you to four preset locations.

** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
