Yeah, I've just tried 8.04.1 on my Mitac Laptop (/w VIA chipset) and Live CD froze at: "running local boot scripts (/etc/rc.local)" We tried Ubuntu on a new Mitac-based SiS chipset laptop too and install froze when the orange bar was loading. So the problem definitely still persists, unfortunately.
