Please, keep this bug open. I can report the same issue. Same ubuntu and
kernel version, on a laptop ASUS M6842NEUH and its optical non-wireless
stock mouse (model MO13UO).

I used to have a Gentoo installation before switching to Ubuntu, and the
issue was not present on the previous distro. I didn't tweaked the HID
configuration on the Gentoo installation: the mouse worked fine "out of
the box".

A sample of the /var/log/messages goes...
