I concur with the above. To the developers, please goto https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu and try "iwl3945" as search keyword. You will get 76 hits which mean that this is far from a individual issue.
I have the same issue with my Sony Vaio with iwl3945 intel wifi.
