Steven's comment illustrates a different but related problem (or bug?): the file /etc/apt/sources.list ought to correspond to the repositories indicated by adept under "Manage Repositories / Third Party Software", but it doesn't -- and the relationship between adept's displayed repository list and the one in sources.list is totally mysterious (and undocumented).
