Hello;

I have never had the sound working on this PC. Fortunately, I use it more as a
server so it has not been that big of a deal.
If I boot from the live CD (b78ef719e3361e726b89bab78c526ad0
ubuntu-8.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso), the sound works, but for what ever reason,
during the upgrade from the 8.04 release candidate to the full release, the
sound died. I have taken all patches that have been released, and the sound
has never worked again.

I never tried to reinstall this system, but based on the fact that the sound
works from the live CD, I have no doubts it will work.
Is there a dpkg command I can use to reset the sound system?

I am downloading Ibex RC4 now, will report back after I try it out.

Thank you;

Subject: [Bug 223802] Re: No Sound in Hardy Heron (was working in Beta, not
working in final release)

Hi cubical10,

Is this still an issue for you with the even more recent 2.6.24-19
kernel? If so, care to confirm this is still an issue with the latest
Alpha for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10. You should be able to test
via a LiveCD - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing. Please let us know your
results. If the issue still exists, per the kernel team's bug policy,
can you please attach the following information. Please be sure to
attach each file as a separate attachment.

* cat /proc/version_signature > version.log
* dmesg > dmesg.log
* sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log

For more information regarding the kernel team bug policy, please refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies .

Additionally, beginning with the Intrepid Ibex 8.10 development cycle
the linux-ubuntu-modules package was actually merged with the linux
kernel package. Going forward, bugs that would have been reported
against linux-ubuntu-modules should now just be reported against linux.
I'm going to go ahead and open this against the 'linux' task. Thanks.

I installed 8.04 (64bit) from the beta iso available early April. Sound was
working.
I updated the installation as needed over the last month, now that it has been
upgraded to the full release, there is no sound.
