I just tested the memory on both machines again with Memtest but this
time it was with the latest version 2.01 and I got similar results as
before, i.e. when the ECC function was disabled in the BIOS there was
absolutely NO errors reported by Memtest but as soon as I enabled the
ECC function in the BIOS the subsequent run of Memtest reported multiple
ECC errors although the verbage of the error message on the listing line
of the Memtest interface was somewhat different from that which was
shown in the older 1.70 version of Memtest.

I also talked to Crucial memory manufacturer today and they told me that
they would replace their memory modules that I have, but that they think
(as I also do) that it would be an absolute waste of time, since their
opinion and mine to is that this problem is manifestation of the fact
that there is a design/engineering problem with the ASUS P4C800 series
of motherboards or the BIOS for same which ASUS is not about to admit to
even though they advertised these boards as being ECC capable.

The Ubuntu programmers/developers are welcome to look into this problem
but at this point I believe that they would just be wasting their time.
I don't think this is a problem that Ubuntu O/S can fix because it is
being seen completely independent of the running of the Ubuntu or any
other O/S, even though it seems to pass some of it's negative effect on
threw to Ubuntu.

Let me know if your have any further questions or need any more
information about this.

Thanks.
