I second that.  I have had problems with that ever since I decided to
try Intrepid.  At first I thought my drive was failing, but when I
checked the process list I noticed that fsck running.  Waited for it to
finish and rebooted.  For me this happens quite often (every week
almost) since I run a laptop and start and stop it several times a day.
A progress indicator at KDM screen for me would be more helpful and
graying out the login option if the necessary home partition for that
user is busy makes more sense as well as a more useful message.
