I also agree with this. sysklogd is an old piece of software, with no new releases since 2001, and can cause deadlocks if used together with a local nameserver (see here: http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=bind- users&m=106550411521807&w=2), or delays in logging if it has to do reverse DNS lookups. syslog-ng allows for DNS lookups to be disabled, and has many other features. It should at least be provided as an alternative.
