3) I expect for the volume to change when I press the volume control
keys, or the mute button, or the play/pause button.  I expect for a
dialog to pop up showing me that this is happening.

4) Nothing happens when I press the volume control keys, or the mute
button, or the play/pause button. No dialog pops up, no volume changes.
