Thank you for your response, Pedro. Yes, this happens with all image files on my computer.
I tried creating a backtrace using the instructions in the wiki, though I ran into problems. Using the "already running" instructions wouldn't work, because the problem had already occured by the time I launched gdb. I tried using the "before running" instructions, but could not figure out how to get gdb to treat the path to the image file (gdb eog </path/to/picture>) as an option to eog, and not an option to gdb. I then moved on to try another user account as you had suggested. The program worked as expected--NO PROBLEMS. What's strange, is that after running eog on another user account, I could no generate the problem on my account. I guess I'm glad it is no longer causing a problem, but it really doesn't help if there indeed is an actual bug. Sorry. I will submit additional comments if the problem continues. Enough of my rambling! Thank you for your prompt help--I'm new to this debugging thing and appreciate the opportunity to learn something new! -- eog will not open image when file specified https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/257850 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
