I'm confirming this bug and have have a way of reproducing it: increase the system load.
To reproduce: 1. First make sure you have allot of load on your HD and the location bar is visible in nautilus. You can introduce system load by reading allot of files from disk, for example: cat * */* > /dev/null (make sure you have enough and large files in * and */* to make your HD really work as fast as possible) 2. Click on a directory (doesn't need to be in the places bar) 3. Make sure the location bar has updated to the new location, but you shouldn't be able to see anything yet. The GNOME foot is still wiggling it's toes. 4. Click on the up button. Result: The content of the directory you started in is shown immediately because it comes from cache. However, the location bar is still pointing to the directory you entered at step 2.
