I updated the initial bug description with more information. Hopefully
enough to pinpoint the problem. Thanks.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: pidgin

I can't start a chat with someone on bonjour. They can start a chat with
me, then I can continue, but if I start the chat, nothing happens.

Using pidgin 2.4.1 on Ubuntu Hardy. Worked fine on gutsy.

+ I am adding my own report on this issue. I have had a similar issue. I can
log into pidgin successfully but after the login dialog I have no other dialog
box at all so it is impossible to initiate anything or even to see a list of my
contacts. This seems to be a new issue since I performed an update. I don't
see any way to pull up the pidgin interface. Somebody can initiate a
conversation with me and then I see a dialog box appear that contains the
thread. Then I can continue the conversation by using the dialog box that
appears. Once I close this box though, I am back to square one and I cannot
bring up another pidgin dialog box. No interface = nothing I can do. 'ps aux'
reveals that it is indeed running and of course the fact that others can
initaite a conversation with me verifies that. I think the root of this issue
is the lack of an interface or some way to relaunch the interface.

** Changed in: pidgin (Ubuntu)
       Status: Invalid => Confirmed
