OpenOffice.org Math belongs in the suite, period. I've never understood
why it's not included.  Ubuntu tries to be friendly to "new users" and
many of those users may accustomed to ussing OOo on other platforms.
And OOo for Windows includes  "Math" installed by default.

The best workaround is just to include it, period.
