Do you have a button which switches from external to laptop-screen video
mode? have you plugged it into a monitor and does it do the same thing
there? Have you tried to adjust the brightness of the screen?
More investigation and testing of hardware may be required. See if you
can get logs for what happens when you resume since only the screen
doesn't come back.
