Thanks for reporting this bug. Please can you confirm that the input sources are enabled correctly and have an appropriate volume level; right click on the panel speaker icon and open the volume control application. If that does not help. Check your system logs for any messages related to sound and post them here; use "System->Administration->System Log--Messages". It would also be useful to know which sound card/driver you are using; you will be able to get the device type from the title bar of the volume control window. Did you notice any updates in particular that might have affected sound?
