Binary package hint: xdg-utils
xdg-open's GNOME detection is broken in Intrepid; it tests for the
existence of GNOME_DESKTOP_SESSION_ID in the user's environment, but
this is no longer set by gnome-session. This pretty much makes xdg-open
fail in Intrepid, at least for me.
On my system, it looks like a check for DESKTOP_SESSION=gnome could
work.
