I installed 8.04 from the CD, did all the updates, then tried to install libgtkmm-2.4-dev.
I now re-installed 8.04, did NOT do the updates, and installed libgtkmm-2.4-dev and it worked. I'm installing the updates now. We;ll see how that goes *grin*.
