I'm not sure if the bug I'm suffering from is similar to yours, but I know that if I try to add the folder view it shows up as a black dot instead of the folder view and I can't check its properties since it classifies it as an unknown plasmoid. I know I installed all related packages, so I'm not sure what is wrong since it shows up in the add list just fine. This is the closest bug report I could find and I didn't want to open a possible duplicate.
