Same problem here : - a CIFS share (Alfresco) on the network, requiring authentication - this share is accessible through OpenVPN - mount.cifs works flawlessly - gnome-vfs in previous versions of Ubuntu worked flawlessly - gvfs (via Nautilus or in a terminal with gvfs-mount) refuses to mount the share ("Error mounting location"). I use the direct IP address here - shares that don't need authentication don't have this problem
