Yes, I think this is related to bug 40571: screensaver don't work until
I set preferences in monitor power savings. The fact is that the power
savings preferences are not "remembered". By the way, the screensaver is
set after 8 minutes of inactivity, monitor is set to power off at 25
minutes.
Regarding your questions:

+ I am currently using hardy heron (latest kubuntu release) updated today (july
31st)
+ I use a laptop: Dell Latitude D820, TFT 15' monitor and nVidia card G72M
[GeForce Go 7400]. I'm using the propietary (nvidia) driver.
