The launchpad text areas will, drop letters as you type them, so it's not even keeping an eye on the keyboard as it is being used. Interestingly, if I type with the left hand, and keep the mouse cursor over the text area (with right hand), then it is possible to type with a noticeable decrease in the number of letters that get dropped. This adds to the probable cause problem being "focus". Also when a letter gets dropped, I have to move the cursor into the text area , and re-click to gain focus, then move the cursor to the correct position to carry on.
