Thank you for your bug report. What you describe is a corner case,
usually users who don't have space to copy something should do some
cleaning and try again. The extra logic you describe would be of no use
in most of the cases and add complexity to the code for no real win. The
ubuntu desktop team doesn't have the ressources to work on such changes
so I'm closing the bug. You can try to open a bug on bugzilla.gnome.org
if you really disagree on that though
