The azores.linex.org/gambas-other repository contains version 2.5-1,
which is more recent that the one in the Ubuntu repositories. I've
confirmed that it works great in Ubuntu 8.04 Desktop AMD64, as I've used
it extensively. For whatever reason the demo applications are still
mostly broken however. The current stable release is 2.7.0
(gambas.sourceforge.net), and it doesn't appear as if anyone's been
building Debian packages since 2.5-1.

GAMBAS is in my opinion one of the few "killer apps" available for
Linux, considering it blows Visual Basic out of the water hands down. It
is the only highly polished, highly functional, complete IDE/RAD
environment for Linux that I know of, and should really be given more of
a marketing and packaging push as a selling point of Ubuntu. There are a
lot of Windows developers that love Visual Basic and don't want to learn
C++, etc., just to make an in-house GUI application for their company.
GAMBAS fills that gap in Linux and is a little known gem that more
people need to know about.
