I'm pretty sure you changed the numbering in the wrong location.

I was able to make it look correctly (I think) by doing this:

1. Right click on Table of Contents and click on Edit Index/Table
2. Click on the ellipses next to Outline
3. On Paragraph Style for Level 1 pick 'Heading 1' and select numbering then 
click OK and click OK again on the main edit window

You can add a '.' by putting it in the 'Separator' 'After' box.

I have marked this bug as Invalid, if you still have trouble after doing
the above please reopen the bug and follow up with additional
information.
