Same issue with 2.6.24-20-generic System: x2 3800 dual core AMD nvidia 8800GTS 2gig 128bit dual channel ram mixed sata/pata drives
On my system it doesn't halt, but it doesn't know that there is an nvidia card plus the latest nvidia drivers on board. It gets to the "problem with x" and continue/configure in low rez gui mode.
