I've put this back to 'In Progress' because... I can confirm that the package xchat recommends libnotify-bin, but when installed with 'Applications > Add/ Remove...' the recommended packages are ignored.
Ubuntu 8.04 xchat 2.8.4-0ubuntu7 With the balloon alerts selected I get an error when xchat tries to use them: <quote> Cannot find 'notify-send' to open balloon alerts. Please install libnotify </quote> But that package can't be found: <quote> [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo apt-get install libnotify [sudo] password for duncan: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done E: Couldn't find package libnotify [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ </quote> I can see that if I install libnotify-bin the balloon alerts work. So this needs some changes if xchat should be able to use balloon alerts by default in Ubuntu. Perhaps one of these changes: * make libnotify-bin a dependency * make apt recognise that libnotify is part of libnotify-bin * make 'Add/ Remove...'
