Did you upgrade your Ubuntu to the latest packages? Meanwhile my mpd works fine. But I cannot tell you, which package fixed the problem. My system is running 24/7 and reboots, when a new kernel version was released. Maybe, the problem is client-dependent. I use GMPC, Sonata and MPD-Commander (Windows).
