If you had a working xorg.conf on Gutsy, just reuse that on Hardy.  If
it doesn't work, then bringing back the dpkg-configure stuff (as this
bug is demanding) would not solve whatever your issue is anyway.

No, your root problem is whatever caused your X to not start up, and
that issue is almost certainly unique compared with the other commenters
on this bug.

If people are choosing to put a comment on a bug report requesting a
workaround, rather than actually reporting their real, root bug so that
it can get solved properly, that would be quite unfortunate.
