It would be grat to make Ubuntu the only distro that would support ESI Maya44 sound card out-of the box. I think that somebody should work on that patch regularly so it would be compatible with incoming Alsa versions.
Of course, the best is to include it with the official Alsa. But as far as I know without the Rainer sign-off it's impossible.
