I know it never happened to me under Dapper, as Seb has stated. I started using Edgy sometime in the beta phase, and during the whole time I was on Edgy I have been experiencing this bug. Another thing to note that may be related is that sometimes when I try and open a folder within nautilus (by double clicking on a folder), nautilus will hang for a moment and then spawn 4-5 new home directory windows and fail to load the selected folder. Not sure if this helps at all or if it's a separate bug.
