 Thank you for the quick reply! The issue came up while I was trying to
install a program about a month ago, (can't remember which one?) Since this
was a new install, I have decided to do a clean install of Ubuntu and
everything is working well now!

It looks like the update-manager is finding the word "sudo" in the
source list (at /etc/apt/sources.list) and choking on it (That's not
normally something it finds there).

Perhaps you can edit it yourself with a text editor. If you post your
/etc/apt/sources.list, I could try to walk you through it.
