I'm sorry that your experience with Ubuntu was not what you hoped for, but it just isn't possible for us to know what is going wrong if you don't provide the information that we need to determine the cause of a bug. For instance, you haven't even told us what video card and drivers you are/were using. What other troubleshooting steps have you taken? Did you ever seek support on the Ubuntu Forums? Please bear in mind that most of us are volunteers - I donate my time to triaging bugs, writing documentation, and helping on the forums. From my personal experience and from time spent on the forums, I can assure you that screen resolution problems are not uncommon, and most are easily fixed. If you choose to give Ubuntu another try, the forums are your best source for personal help and troubleshooting.
