Hi,

On my particular hardware this does not result in a soft lock, but a
complete hard freeze. If I download the original driver for the rt61
from sourceforge, and recompile it, it does not cause any issue.

On Gutsy the same problem was present, but only caused the networking to
stop working (and motivated the reader of the log file to file a bug
report).

On Feisty and before it seems to work.

It is a show stopper for lots of people running ralink cards, and it is
not obvious at all why it is happening (I spent a day trying different
nvidia drivers, downgraded to gutsy where it became obvious that the bug
that stopped networking in gutsy, stopped the whole computer in Hardy).

The original source doesn't have this problem. Perhaps the rt61 driver
should be separated from the kernel, until the driver is solid enough to
be included by default?
