After more googling, I found the solution. The root cause is the package
mouseemu which is automatically activated on Apple laptops (1 button on
trackpad).

The trick is to edit /etc/default/mouseemu, uncomment "TYPING_BLOCK..."
and change "300" to "0".

If you agree we can keep this bug open as it will probably affect other
mouseemu users. The initial setup behavior is not normal, so maybe it
could be changed...
