Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: qtparted

I have a a logical partition for /home on my /dev/hda disk. I also had
many other partitions, but my plan was to delete those partitions and
remake new ones in that space. On this disk, I had a ~1.5 GB swap
partition at the end, and a ~20 GB ext3 partition (/home) right before
that. Using the supplied QtParted with the Kubuntu Edgy rc CD, I
proceded to delete all but my /boot (primary), /home (logical), and swap
(logical) partitions, and then proceded to create new partitions from
that space. Beforehand, I had backed up all important information from
all the partitions EXCEPT /home since I assumed that QtParted would NOT
touch my /home partition. In fact, I had a copy of those backups in
/home as well (also backed up on another computer, so I still have that
data).

After QtParted attempted to delete and re-create the new partitions, I
thought I'd check to see if everything went right (because the new
partition table it read in was odd; the new partitions were of "unknown"
fs type, so I reformatted those under ext3 again). NOT A SINGLE
PARTITION HAD DATA IN IT! Nope, no data in any of them. I assumed that
one of them HAD to be my /home partition, so I tried fscking them all.
One of them had to be recovered a bit, but that still didn't contain any
data.

I tried recreating the partition it should have been twice (once with my
original parameter of 20.00 GB, and again with the size reported by
gpart), yet both times e2fsck could not find the backup superblock. I'm
currently scanning the disk with testdisk, but I have no idea how this
will turn out (other than a probable visit to a disk recovery shop of
some sort).

In summary, QtParted fucked my disk up bad. This is in the release
candidate for god's sake! I didn't modify the /home partition AT ALL
from QtParted, yet it seems to have blown up my /home partition. I've
since deleted it since I'm trying to recover it somehow.

Sorry to be rude at all, but I'm just pissed (and nervous) that my /home
partition is gone, and I don't have ANY backups of that at the moment
since I ASSUMED that QtParted wouldn't touch the damn thing while I was
partitioning OTHER partitions.
