I've discovered that i can "break" the touchpad at will and recreate the error by pressing the capslock key on and off repeatedly. Capslock must somehow be related to the issue. Another person mentioned the capslock/crazy touchpad error connection in the Ubuntuforums, seen here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=845152 After the touchpad bugs out, it recovers and seems normal except that the scrolling features no longer work and furthermore, gsynaptics no longer controls any of the mouse settings. For example, disabling the touchpad via the gsynaptics menu has no effect. This bug is terrible. Losing scrolling functionality is enough to make me reboot when this happens every forty minutes or so.
