Public bug reported:

After Install, I follow the instructions at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FixVideoResolutionHowto?highlight=(resolution)|(screen)
to fix my screen resolution to 1280x1024, updating the horizontal and
vertical scan rates for my CTL 770VF monitor.

After a few weeks of use, the screen resolution changes, all by itself,
to 1024x768. The fix in the above url does NOT adjust the screen
resolution back to hi res. Only a complete deletion and re-install is
the only way I know to fix the problem.

I am using Ubuntu 8.04, but have had the same problem with prior
versions as well.
