Actually Philipp's version (https://edge.launchpad.net/~philipp-dreimann/+archive) works fine if you desperately need ICQ on hardy NOW. You can verify via the Launchpad generated diff that he actually did apply the versionnumber patch only. So no trust issues in this case - if you trust the Launchpad build system ;) Also the version number should allow for seamless upgrading once the update is out.
