What if you have never used mdadm.conf? I've always used standard FD
autodetect partitions and never, ever have I written a mdadm.conf... and
I've been booting to RAID root partitions for years.

Similar problems with Gutsy (2.6.22-15). Checking /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf
(in initrd) shows a vanilla, empty config file (ie. no arrays defined).
I ungzipped and cpio-ed an initrd off a working system and it shows the
raid arrays in there. So, update-initramfs isn't generating a
mdadm.conf file worth using?

Sounds like the bug should remain open... unless this bug was addressed
in another bug and is fixed now...
