Ok, a few issues: you are removing one debian/changelog entry I don't like the amule-utils.postinst magic. You should be doing that on the system level, and not on a per-user basis. a merge with debian would be nice from my reading of /usr/share/doc/debian-policy/upgrading-checklist.txt.gz, you need to create a debian/README.source file as there are patches in the packaging:
* If dpkg-source -x doesn't produce source ready for editing and building with dpkg-buildpackage, packages should include a debian/README.source file explaining how to generate the patched source, add a new modification, and remove an existing modification.
