I have the same problem.

In my computer, there is one IDE disk and one SATA disk.
On Feisty, they were identified as hda (hd0 in GRUB - IDE) and sda (hd1 in GRUB 
- SATA).
But Hardy identifies them as sdb (hd0 in GRUB - IDE) and sda (hd1 in GRUB - 
SATA).

Also for me the GRUB identifies them correctly, although Hardy not.
It caused that I had to manualy edit the menu.lst after successful installation 
of Hardy.

But I winced at the chipset you wrote that you have.
I have exactly the same, VIA VT8237 on my MSI K8M Neo-V motherboard.
