I can confirm this. It should, and does not create these Gconf files. As it stands, I had to compile it from source, and this is when I found out about this bug. It creates them in the vanilla version, but not in the ubuntu version.
If you put these in manually, they function correctly, though for some reason I can't use ~ in the gconf entry.
