Checked lm-sensors-3 source package from http://packages.ubuntu.com/source/hardy/lm-sensors-3 and verified that this issue is at least partially NOT fixed. The coretemp_detect subroutine in sensors-detect lacks model 0x16 and 0x17. This is a difference from the released lm-sensors 3.0.0 code which does detect model 0x17 as controlled by the coretemp module. I suspect the reason for this was lack of Penryn support in the coretemp kernel module at the time, which is also the cause of the error therelic mentions above.
