Dr. Rob Higgins,

If you reinstall openoffice.org-gtk and openoffice.org-gnome and then
reboot does it work for your original user. The only things that I can
think of that could cause it to work for some users but not others is
the ~/.openoffice.org2 directory and a few other temporary files stored
in /tmp which get removed at reboot.
