I installed the 2.6.24-19 kernel via apt-get. The new r8169.ko doesn't
oops out anymore. Nevertheless  the network adapter is still not usable,
since the network packages seem to get "lost" somewhere on the way from
the interface to the hardware and/or back.

One odd thing I've noticed when I patched the driver again was the size
of the modules on my amd64 system: the one supplied by ubuntu is about
40kB in size while mine is over 400kB, as well as the one from 2.6.25.5.
