Thank you for responding, Dereck. I'm afraid the Xorg log has since been overwritten (apparently it only logs 2 sessions/days?), so I won't be able to post the original.
I could run without xorg.conf and post its results, but do you want me to do so in the working setup (no KVM) or while replicating the problem (using the KVM)? Presumably the latter, but I'd rather be sure. I'm posting the xorg.conf I currently have. It seems to have been generated after disconnecting the KVM though, as the correct settings appear to be present in it.
